The analysis of Schiaparelli’s crash during its landing on Mars showed that malfunction of electronic components was the reason for it.
Schiaparelli crashed while trying to land on Mars in October last year. European Space Agency (ESA) conducted the research. It turned out that there was an error in the electronics’ data which stopped the procedure of gradual lowering.
Besides, the main inspector at ESA Tony Talker-Tilsen carried out an independent research. As it turned out, the main factors of the crash were insufficient safety of the construction, bad management and parachute dynamics, errors in the electronic block regulation.
Schiaparelli was launched in 2016 within “ExoMars” program. The module was supposed to carry out the whole procedure of landing on the surface.
Next stage of “ExoMars” will start in 2020. The space module will be manufactured in Russia.
