Tourist flow is expected in spaceports of the CIS countries. There will be specialized tours for the places that were previously closed to the public. It will facilitate the development of land-based space tourism.


Space tourism is a difficult sphere. To prepare such tour is difficult task, and thus their price will be quite high. Ground tourism is another matter. Experts note that the Baikonur Cosmodrome will attract attention of tourists from South Ural. Now it has several hotels, restaurants and museums. The Vostochny Cosmodrome will be visited by people from Khabarovsk and Vladivostok.


This year Roskosmos started the development of the industry. 40 companies have already got permission for tours organization, including Novosibirsk companies, Orenburg, Chelyabinsk, Blagoveshchensk operators.

Details of the tours are under discussion now, as well as their prices. All the information is kept secret. It will be unveiled after final decisions are made and contracts with tour operators are singed. It is said that a tour to the Baikonur Cosmodrome will cost RUB 95 000. The annual output of the cosmodrome is assumed to be RUB 100 mln.

Objects and territories that will be opened for visitors at the Vostochny Cosmodrome are still under discussion, as well as whether foreign tourists are able to visit such covert facilities. In particular, tour operators say there is great interest on the part of Korean and Chinese citizens. But they are discouraged by long process of permit obtaining that can lasts up to 6 weeks.

The exact date of the tour is not yet known, while constriction works are still in process.


The Cosmodromes will be open only for those tourists who will turn to particular companies. Tour operators were selected according to a number of parameters, including good reputation.

Tourism agency reported that tours to the Vostochny Cosmodrome have already begun. Last year it lasted 8 hours and included a visit to Uglegorsk neighborhoods, its museums and monuments. The tour price was RUB 1 500 – 1 800. Day tour for school children was organized as well. Tourist flow is expected to be much higher after the opening of the launch pad and missiles hangar, which will attract most tourists.
