NASA will send a probe to the Sun

02.06.17

NASA is going to launch a probe which will be located at the minimum distance from the Sun.

The launch is scheduled for summer 2018. The device is expected to approach the outer layer of the Sun’s atmosphere which is called corona. Its temperature reaches several millions of Celsius degrees. The probe will be protected by a carbon fiber cover capable of bearing extraordinarily high temperature. By 2025 this interplanetary space station will orbit around the Sun 24 times. Every turn will take 88 days.

The probe is to be equipped with elements worth around $1.5 billion. It will help American scientists to perform radiation measurements and take unique photos within the corona. Probe developers expect received data to shed the light on reasons for the corona’s heating and origins of the solar wind.
